Securing Your Nortex Recovery Phrase

Your Nortex recovery phrase is a 12-word sequence that grants you access to regenerate your private key. Losing this key or having it compromised means irreversible loss of access to your Nortex profile and assets. Therefore, it's crucial to back up your recovery phrase and store it securely.

Important Notice

Nortex does not have the capability to recover your password or recovery phrase. The responsibility to keep this information secure rests entirely on you. For detailed guidance, refer to our 'Lost Password or Recovery Phrase' section.

Backing Up Your Recovery Phrase

Once you have backed up your recovery phrase, it will be permanently deleted from your device for security reasons. The option to view your recovery phrase in the Nortex app will be unavailable (greyed out).

Mobile App Instructions

• Step 1: Locate Your Recovery Phrase

  1. Tap the 'Settings' icon in the app.

  2. Select your profile picture, then navigate to 'Security'.

  3. In the 'Security' section, prepare to note your recovery phrase and tick the verification boxes.

  4. Tap 'Show Recovery Phrase'.

• Step 2: Securely Write Down Your Recovery Phrase

  1. Physically write down the recovery phrase. Do not take screenshots.

  2. Confirm you've written it down by tapping 'I've Written It Down'.

  3. The app will prompt you to enter two words from your recovery phrase for verification. Enter them, tick the 'Verification' box, and tap 'Confirm'.

  4. After recording your recovery phrase, tap 'Done' and then 'Secure Backup'.

Securing Your Recovery Phrase

Misplacing your recovery phrase or exposing it to others will result in the loss of your Nortex profile and wallet funds.

Here's how to keep your recovery phrase secure:

Physical Security: Opt for a physical backup. Write your recovery phrase on paper and store it in a secure location, such as a locked safe.

Avoid Digital Records: Never store digital copies of your recovery phrase on any electronic devices or online services.

Confidentiality: Keep your recovery phrase confidential. Do not share it with anyone, and be cautious about who has access to it.

Hardware Wallets: For enhanced security, consider using a hardware wallet. Hardware wallets like Keycard are compatible with Nortex and provide an additional security layer.

Multiple Backups: Diversify your backup methods. Use both a physical backup and a hardware wallet. You can also split your recovery phrase and store the parts in different secure locations.

Reminder Your recovery phrase is the key to your assets and identity within the Nortex ecosystem. Nortex will never request this phrase from you. Be vigilant against anyone asking for it—they are likely attempting to gain unauthorized access to your assets.
